Guardians can begin scheduling Parent Teacher Conferences on Wednesday, September 9th.
The online scheduler will be available until September 16th. Please schedule your
appointment now to find the time that works best for you and your student.
To schedule an appointment, guardians need to go through their mydsd account.

1. Community Council Meeting -- September 8 at 4:00 p.m. in the library. Everyone is welcome to attend.

We are so grateful to everyone who stepped up to support our school and our students by applying for our crossing guard position!

We received an incredible response from our community, and we truly appreciate everyone who took the time to reach out and offer their help. It means so much to know that our students’ safety and well-being are a shared priority.

We are looking for two crossing guards to help our students safely cross through the school parking lot in the morning.

This is a paid position, with a short morning shift from 8:35–8:50 a.m. each school day.

🤖🚀 Cook Elementary Robotics! 🚀🤖

We are excited to offer TWO amazing robotics opportunities for our 4th–6th grade students this year!

🔧 Learning to Build is perfect for students who are interested in robotics but want a little more guidance as they learn how to build and work with robots. Students will develop foundational building, problem-solving, and engineering skills in a supportive, hands-on environment. Learning to Build is only 6 weeks long. 🏆 Robotics Competition League is for students ready to take their skills to the next level! Our teams will design, build, program, test, and improve their robots as they prepare to compete in the Davis District Robotics League. Students will practice teamwork, communication, creativity, problem-solving, and perseverance while working toward three district competitions and, for qualifying teams, the district championship. Here are the 3 things to know for the week of August 24, 2026.

1. School Community Council Nominations Are Open

School Community Council nomination forms were sent home in first-day folders. If you are interested in serving on the council, please return your completed nomination form to the office by September 1. Electronic voting will be held September 2-5, and the first SCC meeting is scheduled for September 8.

2. Student Device Checkout is This Week

Students will check out a device to use for the year in their classes this week. In order for child to use a device (laptop/ipad), parents and students need to sign the acceptable use agreement in MyDSD.

3. Opening Assembly on Friday

On Friday, August 28, we will have our Opening Assembly for at 9:15 a.m. for our students. We will be introducing our theme for this year- "Unity Makes us Strong, Every Cougar Belongs."

We're looking for 2 parents to serve on Cook Elementary's School Community Council!

Candidate forms were sent home on August 20 and are also available upon request. Nominations are open through September 1 at 3:30 p.m. Candidates should be willing to commit to serving on the council for at least one year.

WELCOME BACK! We have missed you all and are excited to see our students again.

Here are the 3 things to know for the week of August 17, 2026.

1. Tuesday August 18th will be our Back-to-School Night from 5:30-7:00 PM. This is open house style for you to meet your teachers and get ready to return on Thursday.

2. Tuesday August 18th at 5:00 PM we will have a small flag retirement ceremony in the front of our school for anyone who would like to attend.

3. Thursday August 20th is the FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL! The first bell rings at 8:50 and students should line-up at that time for their teachers to walk them into the school. Please remember Thursday and Friday will both be early out days. Students will be dismissed at 1:30 PM.

Calling All Summer Readers!
Did you read for 45 days this summer? Did you fill out your Summer Reading Tracker? Then it's time to celebrate!
Join us in the library on Friday, August 21, from 1:30–2:30 PM for our Summer Reading Party! We'll enjoy yummy treats, play fun games, and celebrate your hard work with summer reading certificates.
If you completed all 45 reading days, have your tracker signed by a parent and bring it to Back-to-School Night. The completed tracker is your ticket to the party! Need a new tracker? Extra copies are available in the library or you can download and print one here: Summer Reading Tracker.

The Cougar Rock has become a symbol of pride and belonging at Cook Elementary. Each year, former students return as graduating seniors to gather around the rock, reconnect with teachers and celebrate how far they've come. It's a tradition that reflects the lasting relationships built within the Cook community.

Join Davis Reads 45 this summer! Students are challenged to read for 45 days, earning prizes every 5 days and a special end-of-summer event for those who complete the challenge. Pick up books during summer library hours. Families should check with their local elementary school for specific days and times. Regular summer reading helps prevent learning loss and supports continued academic growth. Contact your school or library to get started!
