Each year, students in grades 3-6 have the opportunity to participate in the Book Battles program. Each grade level is assigned 15 books across a range of genres to read and complete comprehension assessments. Under the guidance of our dedicated librarian, Mrs. Hill, and with the support of wonderful parent volunteers, students meet weekly to discuss the books, authors, and engage in "battles" to earn points by answering questions related to the books.
Five students from each grade level are selected to form teams, which then compete against other teams within the district. This year, 25 schools participated in the Book Battles, and our 4th-grade team earned an impressive 2nd place finish. Congratulations, Cook Cougars!
A special thank you to Mrs. Hill, the parent volunteers, and all the students who embraced the challenge of reading the Book Battle books this year. Keep up the great work! The list of new Book Battle books for the 2025-2026 school year will be announced soon.
